Imphal, May 07 2013:
The second meeting of the State Consultative Committee on Education headed by the Education Minister was held today in the conference hall of Adult Education Department, Babupara at around 3 pm today.
The meeting lamented that the budgetary allocation for education sector is too small.
It decided to urge Chief Minister O Ibobi who is also in charge of Finance portfolio to increase annual budgetary allocation for education sector so that the requirements of schools and colleges can be addressed effectively.
Apart from Education Minister M Okendro, Parliamentary Secretary Vunzagin Valte, MLA Dr Ng Bijoy, MLA RK Anand, MLA Fajur Rahim, MLA Preshaw Shimray and high-raking officials of Education Department attended the meeting.
Addressing at the meeting, M Okendro said that budgetary allocation for education sector during the last financial year was just 2.7 per cent.
After subtracting State's matching share for central sponsored schemes like SSA, RMSA, Mid-Day Meal etc, hardly Rs one crore was left with the department.
It was almost impossible to do any development work for schools and colleges out of this meagre amount.
The meeting later resolved to work together to formulate a transparent transfer and posting policy.
