World AIDS Orphans Day observed

As done in different parts of the world, World AIDS Orphan Day, 2013 was observed in the State with Manipur Network of Positive People (MNP+) observing the day under the theme "I am Positive" at its conference hall in Yaiskul Hiruhanba Leirak today.
The function which was organized with the support of Manipur State AIDS Control Society, was attended by Dr SK Chourasia (IAS), Project Director MACS; IK Muivah (IPS), SP (Prison),Manipur Central Jail; L Deepak, President, MNP+ and L Deven, Treasurer, MNP+ as Presidium members.
Delivering the key note address, L Deven said that World AIDS Day is a grassroots level campaign to draw attention to and advocate on behalf of the over 15 million children orphaned by AIDS in the world.
Children orphaned by AIDS are just the tip of the iceberg, as millions more children have been made vulnerable.
Behind the statistics are millions of stories of human suffering.
The AIDS crisis has a catastrophic impact on households and communities, he added.
He further stated that despite progress in funding, prevention and treatment of AIDS, the world is ignoring the basic needs of millions of vulnerable children.
A generation would be lost if we do not take up urgent measures to support the basic rights of children and the families and communities.
Gifts were presented to CLHIVs on the occasion by Dr SK Chourasia and
IK Muivah.
