Even as people of Chandel district staged a sit-in-protest at Chandel DC Lamkhai in pursuance of their demand for immediate withdrawal of surrendered cadres of KYKL (MDC) from the post of 20 Assam Rifles located in Chandel town, womenfolk of Khongjom area today blocked the National Highway 102 (Imphal-Moreh) road in protest against the plan of the government to shift the surrendered cadres from Chandel to Khongjom.
According to reliable sources the surrendered cadres of KYKL (MDF), who are presently in the post of 20 Assam Rifles in Chandel district would be shifted to the post of 15 Assam Rifles near Khongjom War Memorial Complex tonight.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sideline of the protest demonstration, Secretary of Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) BD Betha pointed out that CNPO had earlier launched various agitations including total bandh and blockade along the National Highway demanding withdrawal of the surrendered UG cadres.
The agitations were suspended for around 10 days due to certain compelling reasons.
However, the State government has not paid any attention to the demand.
So, all the people are uniting again under the aegis of Committee Against Sheltering of Surrendered Valley based Insurgence in Chandel District this time to exert pressure on the government for withdrawing the surrendered UG cadres from Chandel town.
He also alleged that the surrendered cadres are carrying arms and roaming around in Chandel town freely and they have also resorted to extorting money from government departments.
On the other hand, getting wind of the plan of the State Government to shift the surrendered cadres of KYKL (MDF) from Chandel to Khongjom in view of strong protest in Chandel district, womenfolk of Khongjom area today blocked the National Highway 102 (Imphal-Moreh) road around 2 pm.
On receiving information about the road block, SDPO Yairipok K Meghachandra, OCs of Kakching PS, Khongjom PS and Thoubal CDO rushed in and talked with the protestors.
The police officers requested the protestors to allow free movement of traffic since it will cause unnecessary inconveniences to the people and choose another form of agitation.
Later, the protestors agreed and staged a sit-in-protest at Khongjom Keithel from 3.30 pm.
The protestors also resolved to carry out a mass rally against the plan of the government tomorrow at 2 pm.
They also resolved to carry out various forms of agitation including imposition of Thoubal bandh if the surrendered UG cadres were shifted to Khongjom.
