Heroin 'factory' busted, drugs worth Rs 100 cr seized

In one of the biggest drug haul ever made in the State and a major achievement in the drive against drugs, a joint team of Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB), Thoubal police and members of ANJUMAN, busted a heroin manufacturing factory and seized drugs worth Rs 100 crore, apart from arresting three individuals as well.
Parading the arrested individuals along with the seized drug items and other materials before media persons at NAB Manipur complex today afternoon, NAB SP W Basu stated that at around 4 am today, acting on specific information regarding the presence of a heroin manufacturing factory at Lilong Dam area, a combined team of NAB and Thoubal district police, with assistance from ANJUMAN members led by Th Brinda, Additional SP, NAB and S Sachidananda, Additional SP (Operation) Thoubal, rushed to the spot and raided the residence of one Md Matalip of Lilong Dam.
The combined team was able to seize 111.195 kgs of heroin/brown sugar and arrest three individuals from the spot.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrested individuals were identified as Md Matalip (40) s/o Md Amu of Lilong Dam (owner of the factory), his wife Samim Pusam (35) and Md Serajuddin Mohammad (29) s/o Md Ibungo of Lilong Kaleikhong.
Speaking to media persons, the SP further said that several chemicals, equipment and tools including lime, vice, iron plates, huge pots, huge plastic bins, rubber hand gloves, LPG gas cylinders etc, used in the manufacture of heroin/brown sugar were also recovered from the factory.
The drugs seized by the joint team is worth over Rs 100 crore in the international market and a case has been registered against the arrested individuals, the SP added.
He continued that today's raid and seizure is the first of its kind in the history of Manipur and it's a major achievement of NAB Manipur and State police.
The SP further said that on the other hand, at around 4.35 pm yesterday, a team of NAB Manipur arrested three individuals for illegal possession of 5.463 kgs of opium worth Rs 4 lakh, from Hongkong Veng, under Sugnu PS.
The arrested persons have been identified as Paosienlal Tungdim (32) s/o (L) Mangsuanpok Tungdim of Gelngai village, Chandel, Mangnu Tungdim (55) of the same village (presently staying at Hongkong Veng, Sugnu) and Aaron Nangsha (37) s/o Kothou Nangsha of DC Lamkhai.
A case has been registered against them at NAB PS for further investigation of the case, the SP added.
