Drivers' Day at different places

The Thoubal District Transporters' Union observed its first Drivers' Day today at Tennis Indoor Stadium, Thoubal Wangmataba.
The day was observed as part of the Drivers' Day which is observed across the State.
MLA of Khangabok AC, O Landhoni; Adhyaksha of Thoubal ZP, Kh Surnalata; DSP of IW Traffic Police, Victoria Yengkhom; DSP (Ops) of Thoubal, Y Chandramani Singh; Project Director of MOBEDS, Md Sallauddin Khan; President of TDTU, S Tomba and chief adviser of the union, Md Shaheruddin attended the programme as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, O Landhoni said that drivers have significant roles in the lives of common people.
They transport basic amenities from place to places.
Besides, many lives are also in their hands.
As such, they need proper training.
Saying that drivers should not drive under the influence of intoxicants, Landhoni also urged the drivers to follow traffic rules.
She also urged the public not to target the drivers whenever there is an accident before establishing the reason while adding that the police are there to take care and handle the situation.
The chief guest led the gatherings in paying floral tribute to departed drivers of Thoubal district during the function.
The drivers have urged the concerned Minister to implement a policy for the drivers.
Meanwhile, the Tiddim Road Drivers' Union has observed its 14th Drivers Day at its office located at Keishampat today.
The observance programme was graced by TRDU president RK Settu Singh; VC of AMBOF, B Dhanabir Sharma and president of Imphal-Ccpur Road Bus Owner and Workers' Association, M Naran Singh as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The Imphal Ukhrul Road Drivers' Union has also observed the Drivers' Day today with the union's president Chongtham Biramangol Singh as the chief guest at Yourbung.
