State and central security forces rounded up two activists of armed outfits from different areas even as search operations intensified as pre-emptive measures for the upcoming Republic Day cele-bration.
Security forces succeeded in arresting a UG cadre while conducting special search operations in the valley districts during the last few days in view of the Republic Day celebration to be held on January 26 .
According to a statement issued by the PRO of the Po-lice dept, a combined team of Thoubal district commando unit and 15 AR arrested one SS Cpl of PREPAK namely, Kamjam Milan Singh alias Somendro (21) S/o (L) K Tomba Singh of Sekmaijin Phoubakchao while conducting search operation in Wang- jing Bazar area yesterday as part of the security forces' ongoing operation.
One .32 pistol with three live rounds was recovered from the possession of the ar-rested man, the PRO said.

Investigation revealed that he is involved in extortion of money from the general public of Wangjing Bazar area, it said while adding that a case has been registered at Thou-bal PS and investigation is on.
Meanwhile, based on specific intelligence regarding movement of UG cadres, troops of 30 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector AR launched operation at Manaingkhol area and apprehended one KYKL cadre today.
According to a statement issued by the PRO IGAR (S), the apprehendee is Koijam Nimai Singh (53) S/o (L) K Mangi Singh, resident of Manaingkhol, Imphal West.
Four live rounds of 5.56 mm and a SANSUI mobile phone with three SIM cards were recovered from his possession.
The apprehendee along with recovered items was handed over to Lamsang PS, it added.
stepping up security measures ahead of the Republic Day, Imphal West district po-lice under DSP (Commando) Dr S Ibomcha Singh carried out cordon and search operation in Kalibari and Major Khul pockets of Thangal bazar today with Imphal East district police also undertaking similar steps at Andro parking, Hatta Golapati and Telipati areas later in the evening.
The Thangal Bazar combing operation that commenced from around 11.30 am saw about 500 persons subjected to spot verification out of which 18 were taken to City police station for further minute verification process.
In all five persons were taken into custody by Imphal East district police following the combing operation at Andro Parking area near Palace Compound at around 4 pm.
The district police then cordoned Hatta Golapati and Telipati areas later in the evening.
All those picked up during these operations have reportedly been released by late evening.
