Kangpokpi, September 09 2019: During the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur annual tour to educational institutions in the hill districts of the State, Bethsaida Junior High School in Bethsaida village under Kangpokpi District caught the fancy of the tribal students' apex body with its well functioning and number of students enrolled despite of pathetic infrastructures and basic necessities.

A team of ATSUM led by its Education Secretary, Kakai Singsit visited two of the four identified schools of Kangpokpi District under Chief Minister N Biren Singh's coveted educational programme of 'School Phagat Hansi' mission and few other educational institutions in the district today.

The ATSUM team visited Kangpokpi Govt High School at Kangpokpi DHQs and Motbung Govt High School at Motbung village, the identified schools under "School Phagat Hansi' mission and interacted with the teaching staff and students while taking stock of their problems and limitations.

Later, they also visited Presidency College Motbung and Bethsaida Junior High School.

At Presidency College Motbung, the ATSUM came across the non-availability of Librarian and Chowkidar and shortage of two Asst Prof while it also came to know that one teacher have been absent for almost years.

The visiting team was also embarrassed to spot the absence of proper fencing at the only Government College in the entire district which has vastly impacted in the proper functioning and administration of the college where around 1500 students were enrolled for higher studies.

Speaking to media persons, ATSUM Education Secretary, Kakai Singsit said that they are extremely elated to see Presidency College and other educational institutions especially the Government run schools in Kangpokpi district limping back to activity.

He continued that when they visited Presidency College in the early part of March last year, the campus was strewn with few teachers but sadly no students could be seen but today they could come across sizeable number of students taking classes and it is surely a good sign and they would like to enthuse the teaching and non-teaching staff and as well as the students to exert collective efforts in transforming the College into a centre of excellence.

He, however, maintained that apart from the limitations, the absence of proper fencing should be addressed immediately by the concerned authority considering the vast negative impact in the functioning and administration of the college and in the larger interest of the student community.

He also said that Bethsaida Junior High School having classes from Nursery to Class VIII, among many others, is the school which has caught the fancy of ATSUM with its significant number of students and proper functioning despite of pathetic condition of the school building and infrastructures.

He said that they felt really embarrassed and unfortunate to see such huge number of students in a Government school confined in a very small room owing to shortage of sufficient rooms while the school building itself is also constructed by the villagers themselves with their voluntary contribution and donation.

He urged the concerned authority and the State Govt to provide sufficient rooms for the students of Nursery class to class VIII including teacher's common room, administration room, library room, kitchen, water tank and sanitary facilities so that they can have proper education with proper infrastructures.
