Imphal, February 23 2014 :
The All Manipur Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has appealed to the State Government to raise the upper age limit of the Manipur Civil Services Combined Competitive Examinations (MCSCCE) 2014 from 30 to 40 .
Speaking to media persons at their Nagaram office this evening, ATSUM president Vareiyo Shatsang claimed that upper age limit for civil services aspiring candidates is 40 years in the States of Tripura, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bihar.
The age limit is extended to 45 years in Rajasthan and Haryana.
Even UPSC set the upper age limit at 32 .
Moreover, Manipur civil services exams were held only thrice (2005, 2010 and 2010) during the last 10 years.
Because of such irregularity in conducting the civil services exam, many aspiring candidates have crossed the age bar fixed by the Government, Vareiyo Shatsang said.
Saying that the number of educated unemployed persons has been rising rapidly, he lamented that Manipur has little private enterprises which can absorb the unemployed class.
Given these facts, ATSUM decided to appeal to Government to raise the upper age limit to 40 years and a representation would be submitted to the Government in this regard.
Many aspiring candidates were also present at the press meet.
They said that the notification issued for MCSCCE 2014 published in media on February 22 was misleading and faulty.
According to the notification, candidates should not cross 30 years of age by July 1, 2014 but the preliminary exam has been already scheduled on April 10, 2014 .
Fixing preliminary exam on April 10 and setting age criteria referring to later date contravenes the Manipur Civil Services Combined Competitive Examination Rules 2010 which have been already published in the Manipur Gazette.
Age criteria should be fixed by taking January 1 as the reference date and this is the norm in other States as well as UPSC, they asserted.
