Imphal, February 23 2014 :
Reacting to Joint Home Secretary of MHA Shambhu Singh for asking the underground outfits of the Northeast to lay down arms and join the mainstream, the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has slammed the Indian Government for trying to malign the people's revolutionary movement and deprive of their Right to Self-determination.
According to a statement issued by Senior Publicity Officer of UNLF Ksh Yoiheiba, the Indian Government has been oppressing the people of Manipur ever since the annexation in 1949.The region has also been militarized with the security forces put at the helm of State administration.
Moreover, the civilians are constantly harassed and tortured by the security personnel under the shadow of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
Unfortunately, India has disregarded the call of Amnesty International and other UN agencies for the repeal of this draconian Act.
The statement further said that the northeastern people are being ill-treated by the mainland Indians.
The deaths of Richard Loitam, Nido Tania and many others are clear instances of racism, hatred and discrimination of India towards the Northeast.
Above all, the Indian Government is using Suspension of Operation (SoO) and peace talks as ploys to create rifts among the revolutionary parties of the region.
However, the true revolutionaries of the region would not fall into this trap and they would fight for the people's freedom till the last breath.
The statement of Joint Secretary Shambu Singh was nothing significant rather being a divisive tactic of a colonial agent.
The people of Manipur would always remain cautious against the Indian colonialists and support the people's freedom movement, the statement added.
