1st Sub-Jr volley ball tourney : SA Kongba stretched to the limit to down IGO in final

In a thrilling final, which lived up to the billing of a championship match, Sports Academy Kongba were stretched to the limit to down a fighting IGO, Oinam in five sets.
The final match started off on a promising note with both teams matching each other in every department of the game.
In the first set, Sports Academy Kongba, had it rather easy as they managed to carve out a 25-20 win and take the lead.
However in the second set, IGO Oinam came back strongly to scrap past the team from Kongba by a margin of 25-23 points.
The third set was also evenly matched and IGO Oinam had to go all out to outscore SA Kongba, 22-25 and take the lead at the end of three sets by one set.
Undeterred by the deficit of one set, Sports Academy Kongba came back strongly in the fourth set to carve out an easy 25-12 win and take the match to five sets.
In the fifth set, the players of Sports Academy, Kongba showed better co-ordination and stamina to grab the fifth set by 15-11 .
Organised by Sports Academy, Wangkhei Kongba, the final match was attended by S Loken Singh, vice president of Sport Academy, Bijoy Koijam, president of Manipur Olympic Association, Proprietor of HVS Materials and Construction Private Limited H Vikramjit Singh and District Supply Officer RK Binoy Singh as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Apart from the championship trophy the winning team, Sports Academy, Kongba walked away with a cash prize of Rs 7000 while the runners up, IGO Oinam had to settle for Rs 5000 .
The best disciplined team title went to YYC Yaipharok while the best player of the tournament was bagged by Debendro of SA Kongba.
The Best Smash title went to Sunil of IGO, Oinam while the Best Defender prize went to Rabi of SA Kongba.
The Best Blocker title went to Rabindro of SA Kongba and the best server title went to Tajkhan of IGO Oinam.
Leimapokpam inter-village volleyball tournament : YPC Mayang Imphal downed YUC Sanjenba in straight sets in the first semi-final of the Leimapokpam inter-village volley ball tournament.
The scoreline read as 25-17, 25-21, 25-23.Though the match was decided in a straight set, YPC had to fight for every point with the players of YUC putting in their best efforts.
In the second semi-final match of the day, LLMC Leimapokpam came from two sets down to carve out a commendable win against UWPWC, Uchiwa in five sets.
LLMC, Leimapokpam were down by two sets in the first two sets losing 20-25- 20-25 .
Undeterred by the two sets deficit the Leimapokpam team came back strongly in the remaining three sets to register a memorable win.
The final scoreline read as 20-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-23 and 15-12 .
The final will be played on March 2 .
