Imphal, February 23 2014 :
Adhoc teachers, whose sit-in-protest at MBC School gate in Chingmeirong area completed the fourth day today, have threatened to launch more intense form of agitation if their demand for service regularisation is not honoured by the Government of Manipur.
According to All Manipur Adhoc Employees' Association auditor Khuraijam Ojit Singh there are 654 adhoc teachers under Education (Schools) Department who were serving at various Government educational institutions since 1997-98 without any service protection.
Informing that the adhoc teachers have been highlighting their plight through staging sit-in-protest since February 21 without any official assurance about their service protection/extension from the State authorities, Ojit said most of the adhoc teachers are normally posted at far flung remote areas of the State.
With the Government yet to initiate any official procedure after service of the adhoc teachers was terminated in 2010 maintaining family expenditure has been a huge challenge for these teachers, conceded the Association auditor while conveying that future prospects of their children are very bleak for there is no guarantee whether the adhoc teachers could ensure further education of their wards.
Informing that representatives of adhoc teachers and the Minister concerned had held a meeting but without any definite solution on the issue for opinions varied, Ojit cautioned that further lack of positive measures by the Government will constraint the Association to resort to more intense agitation including band and blockade of national highways that connect the State with other parts of the country.
