Imphal, June 21 2014 :
The Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) has claimed its hand in shooting and injuring one Haijaneng Kipgen at Konghom village on June 17 .
Speaking to media persons somewhere in Sadar Hills, KRA information and publicity secretary T Simte said that the outfit received specific information about some well equipped UG cadres coming to Konghom area with an intention to abduct some civilians on June 17 .
Acting on the information, armed KRA cadres were deployed along the routes likely to be taken by the would-be abductors.
At around 7.30 pm, someone was heard talking on mobile phone.
Immediately, the KRA cadres asked the unknown person to halt but the individual ran away and hid somewhere.
Even as the individual was asked repeatedly to come out and surrender, there was no response.
In order to overpower the unknown person, KRA cadres opened fire in a suspected direction and it turned out that the individual was a woman named Haijaneng Kipgen.
Apart from footing all the medical bills incurred in treating Haijaneng, efforts are also being made to resolve the matter according to Kuki customary laws, T Simte said.
Reacting to a press statement issued by the KNF with regard to the shooting incident, Simte asked whether the KNF was supporting the abductors.
He went on to claim that the black topping along the 15 Kms long road from Ikou to Sapermaina has resumed in full swing after the UG cadres who used to abduct contractor(s) and labourers for monetary demands were flushed out by the KRA.
The same road work development work was put in a precarious condition after the contractor(s) and labourers were abducted thrice.
Now the labourers are being protected by KRA and all the labourers who fled away from the work site have come back, T Simte added.
