Cabinet okays major Dept tag for DIPR

A Cabinet meeting held this evening has agreed to upgrade the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) to the status of a major department.
This was informed by a Cabinet Minister after the meeting which was presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi.
As of now DIPR has many shortages/shortfalls including manpower, infrastructure and equipment.
A comprehensive plan for making up all these shortages would be tabled in the next Cabinet meeting in tandem with the upgradation of the department to a major department.
The Cabinet further agreed on providing jobs to 12 gold medal winners of the 5th, 31st, 32nd and 33rd National Games who are currently unemployed or working outside the State in Sports Department.
An integrated mega tourist circuit comprising of Marjing polo sanctuary, Kaina and Kheba hillock would be developed.
The State Cabinet gave its approval to select a professional consultant for developing tourist resorts at Sendra hillock, Takmu water sports complex and many other places in Bishnupur district.
Service of the consultant would also be utilized for developing mega tourist circuits in Imphal city and surrounding areas.
Planning, preparation of concept note, drawing and design and other architectural works would be the responsibility of the consultant.
The Cabinet meeting also decided to propose the Governor for holding the 8th session of the present Manipur Legislative Assembly from the first week of July, conveyed the Minister.
