Imphal, June 21 2014 :
For the sole reason of refusing to stay in his boarding, a teacher is found to have thrown away the answer scripts of five students and replaced them with blank papers with forged names of the students in the supposed answer scripts to show the five students did not answer in the particular subject of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination conducted by Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) this year.
Maibam Priya, Th Sanju, Naorem Chanchan, Laishram Ichal and P Sonia refused to stay at the boarding run by Arts graduate teacher Thangjam Joykumar at Ukhongshang in Thoubal district.
Thangjam Joykumar made a ploy to make these five students failed in the Board exam and to tell the world that they failed because they did not stay in his boarding called Mangal Boarding and hence they did not study well.
Thangjam Joykumar was a supervising invigilator at Irong Private Examination Centre where the five students sat for the examination.
The students were from Irabot High School where Joykumar is also a teacher.
Thangjam Joykumar replaced the answer scripts (Manipuri subject) of these five students with blank papers.
When the results were declared, these five students of Irabot High School got zero mark in the Manipuri subjects.
This detailed story came to light after Somorjit, who was the assistant officer in-charge of the examination centre, revealed everything during a press conference held at the office of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) here today.
According to Somorjit, during a meeting of the locals at Ukhongshang on June 17, Thangjam Joykumar confessed to his misdeed in writing.
Accordingly, the meeting decided to prevail upon the authority concerned not only to take up necessary action against Joykumar but also ensure that he is not deputed for duty in the said examination centre in future.
Taking serious note over the misconduct of Joykumar, DESAM demanded the authority concerned to take up befitting action against him at the earliest.
It was very unfortunate on the part of Joykumar to look target the students for refusing to stay in his boarding.
Authority concerned should investigate into the matter seriously and give exemplary punishment to Joykumar as he has tarnished the teachers' community, Vice President of DESAM A Thoithoi told reporters.
Meanwhile, DESAM has closed the boarding run by Joykumar.
