The case of burglary at the private residence of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has been cracked by the police following the arrest of two robbers, who turned out to be personnel of 3rd IRB.
Interestingly, one of the two arrested robbers is said to be none other than Ibobi's own cousin.
The daring burglary took place on June 15 at the private residence of the Chief Minister at Thoubal Athokpam in Thoubal district.
Following the incident, Thoubal Police registered a case and since then an investigation was on to arrest the robbers.
The probe was conducted under the joint supervision of Dr Soibam Ibomcha, DIG (Range-II) and Koijam Radhashyam, Superintendent of Police, Thoubal Police.
Yesterday, the probe team could established that the burglary was committed by two personnel of 3rd India Reserve Battalion, who were deployed as guards for the Chief Minister's house, police sources said Saturday.
Police identified the arrested as Md Samir of Sangaiyumpham under Khangabok A/C of Thoubal district and Okram Samananda, whose house is located just behind that of the Chief Minister's.Samananda is said to be a son of the Chief Minister's own uncle.
During the week-long investigation, the police could ascertain that after the robbers managed to enter the Chief Minister's house, they remained inside for about one hour.
Signs were also found that the duo slept on Ibobi's bed.
The duo then broke opened an iron almirah, which was kept in a secret corner of the house, with the help of an iron bar and rummaged through it.
They pulled out all the clothes from the almirah and threw them on the floor.
The photographs of the fingerprints taken by a team of Forensic experts were matched with the fingerprints of the arrested duo, the sources said.
The sources, however, declined to confirm on the exact belongings of the Chief Minister like money and jewellery items believed to have been stolen by the duo, apart from disclosing that a small money box used in offering to God was missing.
