Imphal, June 21 2014 :
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) in collaboration with Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM) conducted a day-long free health camp at Tamei Headquarters, Tamenglong district on June 20 .
People coming from 20 villages under Tamei Headquarters were given free health check up along with provision of free medicines in the camp which was attended by five doctors from RIMS Hospital; one doctor from Tamei Primary Health Centre; three nurses and one doctor from 9 Dogra Regiment.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the camp, M Angamba, president of DESAM said that the free health camp was organized to ensure medical care of the villagers who have been facing lots of inconveniences at the time of medical treatment due to bad condition of roads & bridges in the area.
He stated that most of the PHCs and PHSCs in hill districts are not functioning effectively with doctors and nurses not attending the centers regularly and this is due to the lack of attention from the government.
Maintaining that DESAM had organized such camps in the past in different parts of hill districts and it will continue to so in future also, he urged the government to pay special attention to such villages for ensuring the required medical facilities are available in these areas.
Convener of ZSUM, Tamei, Pongaibou said that there is a need for conducting such free health camps as the people of the villages are deprived of basic medical needs and appealed to the concerned authorities to initiate necessary steps for improving medical facilities in the villages.
