Meeting on vector borne diseases held at Wangkhei

An advocacy meeting on the National Vector Borne Diseases, organised by the Manipur State Vector Borne Diseases Control Societies in collaboration with the Manipur Voluntary Health Association, MVHA, Imphal, for media personnel was held today at the Association's cultural hall in Ningthempukhri Mapal.
Dignitaries present in the meeting, were Dr T Zamkhoka Kuki, State Malaria Officer, Manipur; Dr Ch Dhabalo Singh, Public Health Consultant, National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme (NVBDCP), Manipur; Y Krishna Singh, State Entomologist; T Kamini Singh, State Biologist.
Dr T Zamkhoka Kuki in his speech said that malaria disease is vulnerable mostly in hilly villages.
Speaking about difficulties in spreading awareness in every villages, he asserted that through means of media, an awareness can be expanded to every nook and corner of the hilly areas and educate the people on the disease.
Y Krishna Singh and T Kamini Singh spoke in length about the importance to understand and be aware of the disease in order to prevent it.
According to reports, 225 cases of malaria disease were reported in India in 2012 and 120 cases in 2013.Of all the malaria cases reported in the country, 30 per cent were concentrated in the North East.
Altogether, 21 cases of malaria were detected till may 31 this year in Manipur.
The highest number of malaria cases were detected in Churachandpur District whereas Bishnupur District was least affected by the disease.
In addition to all the efforts put in by the Department to eradicate malaria, there is a growing need for public awareness and cooperation to effectively control malaria.
