Imphal, July 12 2012:
The Transporters' and Drivers' Forum (TDF) today demanded the government to open up the National Highway No 2 and the petrol pumps, which have remained closed since July 6 and 10 respectively over different reasons.
Talking to mediapersons at its Moiragnkhom office here today, President of TDF N Jati pointed out that the Imphal-Dimapur road has been remaining closed since July 6 after four persons from Manipur reportedly stole a Tata DI from Nagaland after drugging its driver and handyman, and it has caused many inconveniences to the drivers and handymen of the stranded vehicles including goods trucks, passenger vehicles and private vehicles which are left to their own.
So, the Manipur government should discuss the matter with Nagaland government and resolve the issue.
On the other hand, shut down of petrol pumps in the state since July 10 after some unknown miscreants burnt down two petrol pumps has added to the miseries of the people in Manipur.
As a responsible government, the state government should solve the matter and ensure reopening of the oil pumps as soon as possible, he said.
Jati further demanded the government to provide compensation for the 10 trucks which were burnt during the economic blockade last year.
In all, 39 trucks were burnt down by blockade supporters last year and the government has so far provided compensation to 29 trucks only.
