Imphal, July 12 2012:
Pesticides which could not be distributed to the farmers in time and whose validity had already expired would be disposed off with due consultation of experts from the Nagpur-based National Environmental Research institute, said Agriculture Minister Md Nasir Ali in yesterday's session of the Assembly.
He was replying to a poser from MLA Dr ibohalbi, who expressed concern that 38 types of unused pesticides procured by the Agriculture Dept is posing health hazards due to non disposal of the same.
He suggested that Department officials responsible for the huge pile-up of insecticides/pesticides be pulled up for an explanation and appropriate action.
