Imphal, May 17 2011:
All Zeliangrong Students' Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) has extended its gratitude to Joint Secretary of Ministry of Home Affairs (NE in-charge) Shambu Singh for visiting Tamenglong and interacting with the people on May 12 at the district headquarters where the Central officer assured many development works for the district.
In a statement, joint secretary of AZSU-AMN S Stephen said that Shambu assured the public that the Government of India would not hand over NH-53 to the State PWD.
However, the organisation has taken serious note of the statement of Brig AK Narula, who alleged that the Zeliangrongs are acting at the instigation of some people.
Questioning why Brig Narula should issue dos and don'ts on the Zeliangrong people, Stephen said that it would be unwise on the part of the officer to dictate the Zeliangrong people, who have a history of their own and have contributed to both the Nationalist movement and Indian freedom struggle.
Brig Narula should understand the history of Zeliangrong people thoroughly before giving any advice and Zeliangrong people do not need spoon feeding from an Army officer, Stephen said, adding that Military Civic Action programmes implemented in Zeliangrong area can never compensate for the untold miseries, tortures, killings and rape of Naga women during the last six decades until the dawn of the Indo-Naga ceasefire in 1997 .
It is ridiculous to note that Brig Narula and 11 Assam have launched a publicity stunt making publicity stunt of the so called VACC, ZU, Zeliangrong Elders Forum for Peace Brokers, ZWU, SHG, etc whom they have interacted with as these organisations have been the mouthpieces of 11 Assam Rifles, Stephen added.
