Ukhrul, September 22 2015:
The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) and Principal Association for Recognized Schools (PARS), Ukhrul jointly are set to organize a rally on September 25 against the prevalence of child trafficking in Ukhrul district.
The plan for the rally was taken after a minor school boy, was kidnapped on Sept 16 from Hungpung near the petrol pump at around 3 pm.
In a brief interaction with the child, Romi aged about 13 years, (name changed) in the presence of his parents said that he said that at around 3 pm of September 16, four unknown persons tried to whisk him away after being bundled into a vehicle, when he went out to buy snacks.
The vehicle then headed towards Imphal, he added.
The student from Lambui village is reading in Class VII at Scholar Pakshmi School, Ukhrul.
Disclosing details, he said that when they reached Lamlong at around 7 pm, the vehicle stopped for a while.
It was during the brief halt that he somehow managed to escape from their hands while they were busy contacting with their phones.
Romi said that after he got out of the vehicle, he rushed to some womenfolk who were at the market.
He then revealed the whole episode to the womenfolk.
The womenfolk then immediately reported the matter to the police.
At around 8 pm, the police got in touch with his family through the telephone and later he was handed to Porompat police station.
The family has registered a case in Ukhrul police station.
Taking strong exception of the incident, PARS has strongly condemned child trafficking especially students and added that the Police Department needs to check such activities which are prevalent in the district.
PARS has also urged that the culprits be booked at the earliest.
PARS also expressed dismay with the security loopholes and reminded that the abductors, along with the child crossed three security gates to reach Imphal.
The three security posts are Lambui, Litan and Yainganpokpi.
That no entry was made at any of the gates was very disappointing, said PARS.
The possibility of the traffickers having a close nexus with militants is very high as many groups may be forcefully recruiting child soldiers, they said and added that they may also be involved in organ trading.
PARS has also urged parents to be more cautious while lifting and dropping their children at schools.
The Principal of Scholars Pakshimi School, Sane Job Horam has condemned the act of targeting young children and added that students are no longer safe.
The law enforcing agencies should act promptly without further delay to book the traffickers and ensure a peaceful environment, he added.
To condemn the incident and sensitise the public, a rally against child trafficking as well as to demand befitting action against the kidnappers will be held on September 25.All the students of Ukhrul have been urged to attend the planned rally.
