Programme to welcome adoption of SDGs

Imphal, September 22 2015:
Big Sisters' League (BSL) and Human Rights Alert (HRA) supported by several civil society organizations will be organising a cultural afternoon at the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex, Imphal to welcome United Nations General Assembly's adoption of a set of 17 international development goals known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) .
In a press note, Managing Trustee of BSL Chabungbam Joymati and HRA Executive Director Babloo Loitongbam said that this month the UN General Assembly is adopting SDGs with the aim of saving the people and the planet.
"SDGs are about our lives.
Its targets ending poverty and hunger, improving health and education, making cities more sustainable, combating climate change, and protecting our oceans and forests etc.
by the year 2030", said the press note.
The two organisations said that they wanted the people of Manipur to know the SDGs and also realize them.
Civil society representatives from Manipur are already in New York to be part of this historic process in the UN Headquarters.
The programme under the theme "Light the Way � Manipur" will commence from 3.30 pm and go on till 6.30 pm.
Rajkumar Imo Singh, MLA of Sagolband A/C and S Saratkumar Sharma, Chairperson, Manipur State Commission for Protection of Child Rights have agreed to grace the function as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively, said the press note.
