Miscreants burn down school van at Pallel

Unknown miscreants burnt down a school van parked along Aimol road at Pallel, Thoubal district late last night, our correspondent reports.
A Tata Magic van, (registration no.MN 05C 1922) used as a school van was parked in front of Cherith Foundation along Aimol road from 3 pm yesterday owing to a flat tyre.
The vehicle was left parked along the road for the night as repair shops were closed due to the 24 hour bandh imposed by the National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) .
At around 12.30 am, on Tuesday, some unknown miscreants burnt down the parked van severely damaging its frame.
The vehicle is registered to one Takhellambam Mukta alias Tombi, 40, s/o (L) Budhachandra of Pallel bazar.
Relating the series of incidents, one of the neighbours who witnessed the event said at around 12 midnight, the neighbourhood were alerted of the fire.
When they came out, they saw the vehicle already engulfed in flames.
The whole neighbourhood joined in the effort to douse off the fire, he said.
Speaking to media persons, the driver of the school van, Asem Nanao, said he had parked the vehicle along the road after one of the front tyres got punctured.
"I left the vehicle along the road for the night as the tyre repairing shops were closed due to the bandh", Nanao said.
"I have no personal hostility with any one nor any monetary demands were made from any organization", he maintained.
Demanding individual/organisations responsible to state the reason behind the arson, Nanao has also appealed authorities concerned to book the culprit(s) involved in the incident at the earliest.
He has further expressed disappointment with the School Van Association, Pallel for maintaining silence over the incident even after informing them about the incident.
