Workshop on violence against women begins

A two-day workshop programme on violence against women has kick-started on Tuesday by the Social Welfare Department of Manipur Government at the conference hall of Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Chingmeirong.
Deputy Director of Social Welfare Department, Th Joychandra said that a number of women in Manipur are being harassed and assaulted each day though it has been said to respect them.
Various incidents of sexual assault and killing are reported every day in print and electronic media and such incidents are continuously taking place, said Joychandra while adding that time has come to find out ways to stop these crimes and violence against women so that they can live in peace in the society.

The Deputy Director of Social Welfare Department further said that violence against women cannot be stopped until one becomes conscious of such crimes.
Violence against women can be fought with law and spreading of sexual photos and videos through social media needs to be checked, said Joychandra and reiterated that such cyber crimes have indirectly contributed in increasing the rate of violence against women in the society.
Joychandra also called upon all the social organizations to work together with the people for the betterment of women and to control violence against women.
Deputy Director of Surrender Social Welfare Department, A Sisak, Probation Officer of Social Welfare Department, K Saroja and Deputy Director (Training) of Social Welfare Department, K Jiteshwore attended as presidium members during the inauguration function where representatives of NGOs and police officers were also present.
