Imphal, September 22 2015:
Taking strong exception to the statement of MLA RK Anand who said that 'it is only because of the generosity of the Meiteis that the Nagas and Kukis could exist in Manipur today,' the All Manipur Tribal Women Union has said the statement shows the sheer ignorance of history and geo-politics of Manipur on the part of the MLA which is very unfortunate.
In a statement, AMTWU demanded an apology from the MLA for his irresponsible statement, which has allegedly further alienated the hill people.
The tribal people, especially from Churachandpur and Sadar Hills understand that the Bills passed on Aug 31 certainly affect them.
Instead of rectifying the flaws in the Bills, the State Govt continues to blame the people.
This has aggravated the already volatile situation, it said.
The State Govt keeps on bragging that the Bills do not infringe on the rights of the tribals instead of trying to solve the grievances of the tribal people.
This has insulted the tribal people.
The destructive attitude of CM O Ibobi and Dy CM Gaikhangam will never bring any solution, it said.
The corpses are lying rotten in a freezer-less morgue, which is a proof of second class treatment to tribals.
AMTWU also thanked unbiased media houses and condemned those that carry unrestrained statements which create damages to the pluralistic society.
