Imphal, August 17 2015:
Demo-cratic Students Alliance of Manipur has today launched a Reconsolidation Campaign for Implementation of ILPS to strengthen the popular demand.
Speaking to media persons, DESAM president Moirangthem Angamba said a group of around 50-60 volunteers of JCILPS, Students' Wing allegedly stormed into DESAM office building yesterday.
The volunteers abduc- ted and severely thrashed two DESAM volunteers, namely Elangbam Musuk and Ronil.
Strongly condemning the act, Angamba deplored the conduct of JCILPS, Students' Wing.
According to Moirangthem Angamba, tension was brewing between JCILPS, Stu- dents' Wing and DESAM regarding a comment posted against the latter by volunteers of the Students' Wing on social media site Facebook.
The problem was however dropped after the two sides met to resolve the misunderstanding.
DESAM had never anticipated such violent actions from the side of JCILPS, the president said.
In another incident, DESAM Imphal West leader Ashokumar was severely thrashed by JCILPS Students' Wing volunteers, the president said.
Stating that the series of violent events are nothing but an attempt by certain group of people to tarnish the image of DESAM and other like minded organisations which are constituents of JCILPS, Angamba said these actions have been taking the protest movement in a different way.
Leaflets adjudging DESAM as a domestic pet of the State Government were circulated in different places today with the sole purpose of tarnishing the image of the alliance, he said.
DESAM has supported and taken active parts in every form of protests demanding ILPS, he said.
Differences of opinion and rift between the JCILPS and other affiliated associations/organisations have been there for a long time.
One such instance was the removal of DESAM president Angamba from the post of JCILPS Students' Wing convenor.
Another instance of the rift and undemocratic steps of JCILPS could be seen when All Manipur Students' Union blocked Imphal-Moreh road without serving any prior information to JCILPS, Chandel unit.
Regarding the alleged abduction of DESAM members by JCILPS, Students' Wing volunteers, the alliance informed JCILPS convenor in-charge Kh Ratan Singh who assured immediate release of the duo.
At around 12.30 am today, some volunteers of THANIL and Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Lup, Thangmeiband brought the abducted members to DESAM headquarters severely injured.
Demanding a detail explanation for the assault, Angamba said DESAM will no longer support JCILPS in any of its future steps.
The alliance, he added, will instead join hands with like minded civil organisations to save the ongoing pro-ILPS movement from being derailed by people who are interested only in exercising power.
A reconsolidation campaign for implementation of ILPS has been launched today by the alliance.
Public meetings and discussions sessions, Angamba said, will be held at different places as part of the campaign.
A people's convention would also be held to list out the line of agitation to be taken up under the campaign, the president added.
