Imphal, August 17 2015:
Assam Rifles have recovered contraband items worth approximately Rs 50 crore on NH-102 during last one year.
NH-102 is the only road to connect Myanmar.
This was the achievement of relentless dedicated efforts of troops toiling hard which has had a major dent to the funding, which is necessary for furthering insurgency in the state.
Assam Rifles has been instrumental to a large extent in curbing the inflow of weapons, contraband items and resultantly cutting down the monetary flow to insurgents.
Controlling the resources, Security Forces have contributed largely in improving the security situation in the state.
Insurgency in Manipur is skewed, exploiting the easy availability of weapons, contraband items and precious metals astride the Indo-Myanmar border.
Apart from providing necessary capital, the contraband items also have an adverse impact on the social fibre of the society.
The consequent monetary inflow which fuels the Insurgency has faced a formidable opposition in the collaborative efforts of Assam Rifles, Narcotics Control Bureau and State administration.
The forces have restricted funding and the recruitment opportunities for Insurgent groups helping young nubile minds to remain in the mainstream while tightening the noose on senior leaders.
This constant opposition by Security Forces have led to decrease in Illegal smuggling activities on NH- 102 over the last year.
