JAC serves 48 hrs ultimatum

A JAC constituted today in connection with the controversial death of one Sultana alias Begum (27) d/o Md Noor Muhammad of Hatta Golapati has threatened to launch a series of agitation if those those involved in the woman's killing are not booked and punished within 48 hours.
Even as JAC functionaries confirmed to newspersons today about Sultana, a divorcee, being found dead under suspicious circumstances at a Kumbi area at around 2 pm yesterday, a JAC statement said body of the deceased woman would not be claimed until and unless culprit(s) involved in the alleged murder is/are arrested and punished.
According to convenor Md Habibur Rahman the JAC formed at a public meeting convened today comprises representatives of AMUCO, Kangleipak Women's Welfare Association, All Manipur Muslim Girl Students' Union, United Muslim Development Orgn and Muslim Council Manipur.
Asserting that within 48 hours of submitting a memorandum to the Government of Manipur the culprits should be booked and subjected to exemplary punishment failure which further course of intense agitation would be chalked up with State level civil society organisations, the JAC statement demanded that investigation be ordered into the case by a police officer not less than a DSP rank.
It also demanded that post mortem of the victim be conducted in the presence of prominent private doctor alongwith media coverage.
Further demanding that chargesheet be filed at the earliest, the JAC also conveyed that failure to evoke positive response from the State authorities will compel the JAC to lodge complaint at the national level rights bodies as well as the Central Government.
