Imphal, January 16 2014 :
Demanding revival of Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU), MU students joined by representatives of students' organisations and unions today staged protest demonstration in the varsity campus along with handing over a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor.
Media persons were told by a MUSU RDC member that today's protest demonstration, also participated by representatives of different students' organisations, is a part of the students' ongoing campaign/agitation for restoration of MUSU.
Accusing the Vice Chancellor of misusing his position and alleged financial irregularities, the member claimed that not filling up the vacant post of the University's Finance Officer is a deliberate ploy by the VC to continuosly indulge in unethical activities and prolong authoritarian grip in the highest educational institution of the State.

Along with charging the VC of conniving with contractors to amass personal wealth, the functionary also opined that non appointment of faculty members for over three years testify incompetency and administrative naivety of the VC.
The University's Administration Block transformed into a hub of misdemeanours and mal-practices could be rectified only when MUSU is revived, the functionary maintained.
Even though security personnel deployed in the University prevented the protestors' attempt to enmass submit the memorandum resulting in brief exchange of heated argument, a handful of them were allowed to proceed and place the representation at the VC's office.
