MGNREGS workshop

A one-day workshop on 'Convergence of Schemes with MGNREGS' organised by Rural Development and panchayati Raj (RD&PR) Department was held today at Classic Hotel.
Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga inaugurating the workshop as the chief guest conceded that inspite of NREGS launched with the objective of benefitting the rural populace implementation of the same needs proper assessment to ensure its suitability in specific areas.
Highlighting that minute study about the location and local conditions is essential for success of various welfare programmes envisaged under NREGS, Lawmkunga noted that owing to benefits provided by the noble project trend of rural work force flocking to the city in search of daily wages has reduced significantly.
He also called upon officials of various departments participating at the workshop to ensure effective and judicious implementation of NREGS works to help the rural population sustain livelihood and live a respectable life.
Joint Secy (RD&PR) N Geoffrey in his address stated that plans are afoot for including tree plantation as an NREGS component.
Besides DCs of the 9 districts, top officials of Horticulture, Agriculture, V& AH, Health and Family Welfare, Minor Irrigation and IFC departments as well as ICAR Lamphelpat representatives also attended the workshop.
Technical and interactive sessions were also conducted.
