Killing of Sultana condemned

A huge public meeting was held today at Hatta Golapati here condemning the dreadful killing of a 24-year-old woman whose partly decomposed body with throat slit was found in Manipur's Bishnupur district yesterday.
Sultana Begum, a separated wife and daughter of one Noor Ahamad of Irong Mamang Leikai in Imphal West district, also a temporary resident of Hatta Golapati, was found dead with her throat slit at Dampi Forest hill range in Wangtha Lambi under Kumbi Police Station, Bishnupur district in the late evening yesterday.
Her body was partly decomposed.
On Thursday, a huge protest public meeting was organised at Hatta Golapati over the outrageous murder of Sultana.
The meeting chaired by Ward Member Md Abdul Helim condemned the incident.
Later, a joint action committee was formed to seek justice in the killing.
After the protest gathering, the JAC handed a memorandum to the Chief Minister raising a series of demands.
Apart from urging Chief Minister O Ibobi to take prompt action to book the culprits within 24 hours, the JAC among others demanded that the autopsy on the victim's body be conducted by a private doctor known to the family.
It also said that the body now lying at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) mortuary pending post mortem will not be claimed until the demands are met by the Government on time.
The JAC added that the Investigating Officer for the murder case must be a high-ranking police officer not lower than a Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) .
"We have to call for support and cooperation from all the women organisations in the state for further course of action in case the Government turns a deaf ear to the demands within the dateline," warned convenor of the JAC, Md Habibu.
