Manipur governmnet to lobby for Mandalay bus service

Imphal, August 14, 2012:
The State Government has prepared itself to lobby with Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai to introduce Imphal-Mandalay bus service at the earliest.
Ranjan Mathai would be first among Foreign Secretaries of India to visit Manipur.
He would arrive at Imphal on August 16 and give a key-note address at an international workshop on the topic 'India and her neighbours' which would be hosted by Manipur University.
In addition to the proposal for Imphal-Mandalay bus service, the State Government would put up many other proposals before the Foreign Secretary.
The Foreign Secretary would hold separate meetings with the Governor and the Chief Minister on August 16.The meeting with the Chief Minister will also be attended by Commerce and Industries Minister and relevant officials and they would deliberate on India's Look East Policy.
Apart from Imphal-Mandalay bus service which would bring the peoples of Manipur and Myanmar closer, the State Government would raise different issues related to trade and commerce of Manipur.
The State Government will also insist on framing a transit policy.

The international conference scheduled on August 17 would be attended by Ambassadors of Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Commerce has arranged a bilateral meeting with Myanmarese officials on August 22 and they would discuss on increasing items of the Indo-Myanmar border trade.
Among others, the meeting would be attended by Commerce and Industries Principal Secretary O Nabakishore.
