Imphal, August 14, 2012:
MP Dr Th Meinya today drew the attention of the Union government during the Zero Hour of the Parliament on the increasing racial attacks and abuses on the people of
North East in various parts of the country.
While raising the issue, Dr Meinya said, "As a consequence of the unfortunate incident that took place in Assam, we are
now experiencing sporadic violent incidents in many parts of the country, particularly in Maharashtra.
Students and people from the North-East are attacked without any
rhyme or reason".
While demanding an immediate intervention into the matter, he said that such incidents if not controlled immediately may spark bigger problems
throughout the country which would be difficult to control.
People of North East are being attacked and abused simply for the Mongoloid feature which is different with
the rest of the India, he said while demanding to send an advisory to all the concerned states to take up necessary steps in providing security to the people of NE
residing in their states.
He also appealed to all the Members of the House to look into the sensitive and do whatever they can to maintain peace and normalcy in their
respective constituencies.
He further said that "A well known person perhaps not knowingly twitted that "Mary Com the Bronze Medalist is from Assam".
But in fact, she
is from Manipur.
We need to know one another and understand one another.
The people of this great country much know the history, geography and culture of their own".
Perhaps, it is high time to include the history, geography and culture of North-Eastern States in the school curriculum throughout the country in order to strengthen
the Nation, its unity and integrity, Dr Meinya added.
