Cabinet hikes cash reward for Mary to Rs 75 lakh

Overruling its previous approval of Rs 50 lakh cash award to MC Mary Kom, the state cabinet today hiked the amount to Rs 75 lakh.
Mary Kom became the first Indian
woman boxer to win an Olympic medal (bronze) in 51 kg category in London Olympics, 2012. Moreover, the state cabinet has also approved to provide 3 acre of land
instead of 2 acre for development and expansion of the boxing academy set up by Mary Kom at Langol apart from promoting her to the rank of SP (Sports) instead of Addl
SP.
Besides, the cabinet has approved cash award of Rs 20 lakh each to the other state Olympians, who participated but could not win any medal in the just concluded
London Olympics.
As per the decision of the state cabinet, four state Olympians, namely Archer Laishram Bombayla, Boxer Laishram Devendro, Weightlifter Nangbam
Soniya Chanu and Hockey player Khadangbam Kothajit would now get Rs 20 lakh each from the state government.
In addition, they would be given suitable govt jobs as per
their qualification.
