Irabanta JAC threatens stir a new

Asking the State Government to ensure safe and early release of Irungbam Irabanta, the JAC formed in connection with the issue has threatened to launch strong agitations along with civil society organisations.
Recounting circumstances that led to the disappearance of Irabanta, JAC convenor I Modhubala told newspersons at HERICOUN office, Palace Compound today that one Willer from Nongdam Tangkhul village had arranged a meeting between Irabanta and NSCN (IM) leaders in ukhrul district in connection with a contract work at Maphou Dam.
While Irabanta left home for Ukhrul on May 27 an SMS was received about the 37-year old from Nongdam Maning Leikai having talks with Ukhrul district chief executive officer of the NSCN (IM) Francis on the same evening.
Even as information about Irabanta's whereabouts was eagerly awaited, information was received about Ukhrul police personnel rounding up Willer on August 11, claimed Modhubala who rued that inspite of the arrest Irabanta's status is yet to be made public.
maintaining that the Government of Manipur should atleast intimate immediate family members on the disclosure of Willer about Irabanta, she demanded that involvement of NSCN (IM) in the abduction case be conveyed to the Central Government as the rebel group is in a peace talk with the Centre.
Any untoward incidents consequent to the agitation launched by the JAC should be the responsibility of the State Government, she asserted.
Hericoun general secretary Islam also joined the media briefing.
Irabanta has been missing after he left home on May 27 and till date his whereabouts remain unknown.
A State wide bandh was ealier called.
