Imphal, October 12 2011:
Along with declaring October 15 as the 'national black day', the Coordination Committee (CorCom) of KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK (Pro), RPF, UNLF and UPPK has called a general strike from midnight of October 14 till 5.30 pm of October 15 .
A press release issued by the CorCom asserted that it was on October 15, 1949 when India formally announced the merger of Manipur with India after forcing the then king of Manipur to append his signature on the pre-drafted Merger Agreement in a deceitful manner under duress on September 21 the same year.
Since then, people of Manipur have been continuously raising their voice of dissent against the allegedly unauthentic Merger Agreement.
On the other hand, revolutionary groups fighting for restoration of Manipur's lost sovereignty has been separately or collectively observing October 15 as National Black Day.
The CorCom asked all people to suspend their business activities and movement on roads as well as all sporting and entertainment programmes during the hours of the proposed general strike.
Medical, media, emergency and religious services would be exempted from the purview of the general strike, said the statement.
Saying that Manipur would be completing 62 years of being an alleged occupied territory of India this October 15, the CorCom has appealed to the people to participate and cooperate with the liberation movement being waged collectively by the revolutionary groups.
