Festival of narrative art forms concludes

A seven-day festival of narrative art forms of Manipur organised by Institute of Performing Arts ended on October 9 at Manipuri Ensemble complex, Langthabal.
The festival was organised under the joint aegis of Union Ministry of Culture and Manipuri Ensemble, Imphal with the primary objective to promote and preserve centuries-old narrative art forms of the State.
Festival Director Kshetri Jugindro, in this regard, said, "This kind of festival will serve as the foundation of opening of an school/institute of these languishing narrative art forms for future generations by preserving and promoting the various elements of our rich cultural heritage" .
Noted artistes from different parts of the State performed various art forms like pena, khunung eshei, khongjom parva, lairik haiba thiba, khullang eshei, meitei wari leeba, bashak and moirang parva during the seven-day event.

Huge gathering from nearby localities and far away places enjoyed mesmerising performances from artistes like Lamjao Tomba, Loitam Ibetombi, Leimapokpam Yaima, Lourembam Bedabati, T Shyamkanhai, K Surodhoni, Khumanthem Sundari and Pallungbam Ranibala.
Established in 1994, Institute of Performing Arts is the only performing arts institute in the State where eminent gurus working jointly for promotion and dissemination of Manipuri culture.
At present, the institute is working with 24 regular artistes and 11 apprentice artistes.
