Imphal, October 12 2011:
Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (ZSUM) has flayed the alleged incompetency and negligence of PWD in the construction of a bridge between Dikiuram and Katang village in Tamenglong district with the funds from North-Eastern Council, (NEC), Division-II .
The concerned Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer and Section Officers of the Department are incapable to execute the work due to their self-vested interest and unreasonable negligence, ZSUM in a press release alleged.
The union has inspected the construction site and found that quality has not been maintained in the construction of the bridge, it added.
The guarantee of the bridge cannot be ascertained as it may collapse anytime it said and added that the construction has stopped since past three months without citing any proper reason.
It alleged that the contractors are not sincere enough and irresponsible in executing their assigned duties and they work only for their self-gains.
Their insincerity and negligence in constructing the heavy bridge may lead to fatal collapse, it added.
ZSUM added that it would constantly keep strict vigil against such morally corrupted and self-vested individuals to refrain from indulging in such corrupted activities while taking up any developmental work in the Zeliangrong area to bring far reaching development.
The union would again inspect the condition of the bridge at the earliest with media, it added.
ZSUM also asked the concerned contractors to resume construction work without further delay and maintain standard quality.
It also appealed all the Zeliangrong civil organisations, frontal organisations and general public not to support/coordinate such corrupted individuals but extend full cooperation with the Union in the drive against such corrupted practices.
