Imphal, October 12 2011:
Declaring October 15 as National Black Day, the Co-ordination Committee of KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK (Pro), RPF, UNLF and UPPK has called a general strike on this day from midnight of October 14 to 5.30 pm on October 15 .
A statement of the Co-ordination Committee observed that after forcing the King of Manipur to sign the 'Merger Agreement' on September 21, 1949, India openly declared Manipur as a colony on October 15 of the same year.
Since that day, there has been no let up to the public opposition against the alleged merger agreement and the revolutionary organizations fighting for liberation have been observing October 15 every year as National Black Day.
But this time, the Co-ordination Committee of the seven revolutionary groups has decided to observe National Black Day jointly for creating more impact to the public opposition.
Appealing to all the people for participation in the National Black Day observance and supporting the general strike being called, the Co-ordination Committee said that normal trade activities, movement on roads, games and sports as well as entertainment programmes should remain suspended during the strike.
However, medical, media, fire service and religious ceremonies would be exempted from the purview of the general strike.
