Imphal, October 12 2011:
Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (ZSUM) has decried the alleged incompetency and negligence of the Public Works Department (PWD) in taking up construction work of a bridge in between Dikiuram and Katang village in Tamenglong district funded by the North Eastern Council (NEC) Division-II .
In a statement, ZSUM Chairman Stephen Zeme charged that the Executive Engineer, Assistant Executive and Section Officers concerned of the PWD are incapable of executing the work on account of negligence.
Zeme informed that an executive team of ZSUM had earlier inspected the construction work of the bridge and found it to be so sub-standard that it may not withstand even a soft breeze.
The contractors are not sincere enough and are irresponsible in executing their assigned duties.
They work only for self gains, thereby curtailing the rights and interest of the general public, Zeme alleged, while demanding the contractors concerned to maintain the quality of the work.
He also announced that ZSUM would constantly keep strict vigil over the activities of corrupt individuals in taking up developmental works in Zeliangrong area.
