JAC claims Binasakhi's body, demands probe

Following an agreement with the Chief Minister body of a housewife, who died at JNIMS Hospital due to alleged negligence by the doctors on duty, has been claimed by the family members for religious rituals.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, L Thamboi, who is chairman of the JAC formed in connection with the case, said Ningthoujam Ningol Laishram Ongbi Binashakhi (37) w/o L Yaiskul of Heirok Part-II Bazar was admitted to the Hospital for child delivery on October 6 .
Binashakhi reportedly passed away at around 10 pm of October 7 with a stillborn baby.
Contending that the doctor concerned had told the family members that the delivery would be normal, Thamboi claimed of the same doctor suggesting that operation would be a necessity after which the expectant mother was wheeled into the operation theatre.
Inside the operation theatre no doctor or nurse attended to Binashakhi for over 45 minutes and soon after her sister Binarani rushed out to tell the patient party that the elder sibling is bleeding profusely.
Binashakhi is said to have died moments later.
Even though medical personnel of the Hospital finally showed up and tried to resuscitate Binashakhi by putting her on oxygen the belated attempt failed to fructify, said the JAC chairman while strongly condemning alleged callousness of the doctor/nurse, who reportedly cited man-power inadequacy for failing to attend to the lady.
Stating that in connection with the death of Binashakhi a JAC team called on the Chief Minister besides handing over a memorandum, Thamboi elaborated that the memorandum demanded instituting a judicial inquiry, strengthen Hospital man-power, upgrade technology at the only Government Hospital so that there is no repeat of such unwanted case.
He further informed that the JAC set october 11 as deadline to furnish the inquiry report and set up a medical commission for the patient party to register complain, if any, failing which the body would not be claimed.
As the meeting with the Chief Minister reached an agreement on some of the JAC demands decision was taken to claim the body, he added and appealed to all concerned to extend cooperation in JAC launches movement against failure of the Government to deliver justice.
