Over 17 lac voters in State

As instructed by the Election Commission of India, photo electoral roll of the State was published today.
In the meantime, the total number of electors in the State has reached 17,49,889 whereas a total of 47,143 youngsters between 18 and 19 years have been enrolled in the electoral roll.
Speaking to media persons at his office today, Chief Electoral Officer O Nabakishore said that the photo electoral roll released today should have been released on January 14 if not for the law and order situation and bandhs/strikes.
The photo electoral roll has now become almost error free after several duplicate voters were deleted from the list.
The department would continue to check if more duplicate voters are still present in the list.
Out of the total 17,47,889 electors, 8,61,416 are males while 8,86,473 are females.
Percentage of the total number of electors to the total population of the State is 62 .
As against 31,566 number of people between 18 and 19 years who were enrolled in the photo electoral roll last year, 47,143 youngsters in the same age group were enrolled this year.
Gender ratio of the total electors is 1000: 1029 as against 1000:1045 recorded last year.
The CEO remarked that reduction in the gender ratio is a good sign.
Photographs of all electors have been successfully affixed in the photo electoral roll released today.
This means the State has successfully prepared photo identity cards for all voters by 100 per cent.
Altogether 14,064 duplicate voters have been deleted from the list.
As per the photo electoral roll, Mao AC has the highest number of voters at 55,501 while Tipaimukh AC has the minimum number of voters at 17,038 .
The Government is considering to provide the Election Commission's elector photo identity cards to voters in the form of smart cards, Nabakishore stated.
