'NERCORMP/IFAD project transform rural villages'

Ukhrul district, comprising of over 230 villages, has immensely benefited from the NERCORMP/IFAD I & II project that was implemented in the district on December 1999, our correspondent reports.
NERCORMP/IFAD I & II project is a joint venture of the Government of India and IFAD, that provides maximum attention to rural people.
The project focuses on rural development under the banner, "A livelihood project for vulnerable group in a sustainable manner, empower management of their resource base in a way that contribute to protect and restore the environment" .
Under this ambitious project, food security and sustainable income are provided to a specific targeted group living in rural villages as immediate intervention to enhance and boost their economy.
According to a statement by NERCORMP/IFAD, Ukhrul, Project Manager, Tychicus Vashum, the activities taken up under NERCORMP II project and the list of completed projects were shown at the workshop that was held at DRDA conference hall last week attended by community leaders, line departments, SHG, NaRMG etc.
All the ongoing procedures would completed before March 2017.The detailed report of all the project taken up under NERCORMP/IFAD and responses has been collected as project NERCORMP II would end this year.
Ukhrul and Senapati were the two district that were selected for NERCORMP/IFAD project in Manipur.
Project Manager NERCORMP/IFAD Tychicus said the success rate of the project reached to 70 pc although some shortfalls.
103 villages in NERCORMP I and 69 villages in NERCORMP II have been covered in a span of 16 years.
Community contribution was the main reason for the success of the projects, he said.
The projects were monitored by NGOs to felicitate fair implementation and execution.
Under the project, Inter Village Roads especially in border villages of Ukhrul district, cause ways and bailey bridges have been constructed; solar power lighting to 19704 households have been provided and one micro hydel project has been successfully established at Yaolen village in Ukhrul.
In social sector development activities, the project has provided drinking water facilities through construction of rain water harvest, polypipe etc, to 11,109 households of Ukhrul.
NERCORMP/IFAD has also groomed and encouraged entrepreneurs.
It has encouraged production of exotic varieties of fruit like kiwi, avocado etc., that is favourable in the district.
Vashum expressed hope that NERCORMP IV project will be launched in the district soon.
Left out villages including the district headquarters and block headquarters would be covered under the NERCORMP IV project that would transform the rural villages into a self sustained villages.
