Imphal, November 09 2016:
The Affected Land Owners' Association Against the Forced Land Acquisition of National Sports University has appealed to the United Organisation, Kakching and the Khongjom Circle Development Committee to support the villagers of Yaithibi who have been adversely affected by the National Sports University project.
In a press release issued by the association today, Md Alimudin (president) and L Modun (general secretary) appealed to the aforementioned organisations on behalf of the people of Sora to extend support to the struggles that the people of Sora have been facing in the aftermath of the Union Sports Minister's visit to the proposed site.
They clarified that their struggle was against the State Government's alleged dictatorial policy seeking to destroy agricultural land but not against the project.
They further pointed out that the project was opposed by people from diverse communities but the issue seemed to have taken a communal undertone with only the people of Sora being targeted and harassed.
According to the press release, the people of Sora have been facing acute shortage of supplies including food and medical attention and the villagers have not been able to move out of the village due to the virtual siege like situation they have been put under.
The association appealed to all concerned to refrain from any activities which may worsen the situation.
It further requested the concerned clubs to refrain from holding the public rally planned for November 10 around Kakching and Yaithibi.
The appeal was not to undermine the voice of the people but to avoid unwanted incidents and escalation of the already grave situation, it added.
