Imphal, November 09 2016:
Signalling their readiness to provide necessary land for construction of National Sports University (NSU), people of Koutruk, Senjam Chirang and Senjam Khunou today undertook a cleanliness drive at the site set aside for NSU.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the cleanliness drive, Phumlou Gram Panchayat former Pradhan Senjam Bihari stated that the three villages offered to donate necessary land soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced his Government's plan to set up NSU in Manipur.
There is no opposition from any of the three villages and they always welcome construction of NSU in their area, he said.
A joint committee of the three villages was also formed with regard to the NSU.
Reacting to KSO Sadar Hills' claim that the area set aside by the three villages for NSU belongs to L Tangnuam village which falls within Sadar Hills, Bihari remarked that the KSO's claim was baseless.
There is no village called L Tangnuam in the particular area, he added.
Sekmai AC former MLA Ningthoujam Biren said that none of the three villages have been demanding any compensation in lieu of the land they offered for NSU.
The area is a foothill which means no agricultural land would be affected.
There is a good source of water and if the land set aside is not enough for NSU, the three villages are ready to donate more areas.
Saying that Union YAS Minister Vijay Goel and Chief Minister O Ibobi inspected the area set aside for NSU recently, Biren urged the Government to construct NSU at the area donated by the three villages.
At the end of the cleanliness drive, the villagers shouted a slogan "We welcome NSU here" .
