Stage set for CAU Regional Agri Fair 2016-17: Vice-Chancellor

All necessary preparations for the 10th Central Agricultural University Regional Agri-Fair 2016-17 at College of Agriculture(CAU), Imphal from November 10 to November 12 have completed, stated CAU Vice Chancellor Dr Moirangthem Premjit Singh in an interaction with mediapersons today at university premises.
Dr Premjit said that the 10th Regional Agri-Fair 2016-17 will be held under the theme 'Importance of organic farming and integrated farming system in second green revolution'.
As part of the fair, College Auditorium and Post Graduate Boys' Hostel will also be inaugurated by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Radha Mohan Singh who will be attending the function as the chief guest.
He stated that students from all 13 different colleges under the CAU have been exceedingly doing well in both academic and practical activities relating to developing agricultural practices in seven States of North East India.
Mention may be made that different agricultural colleges under CAU are situated in Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Tripura.
Having 13 colleges, CAU is one of the largest agricultural universities in the country.
Further Dr Premjit said that the fair will witness the first of its kind launching of one lakh fruit crop plantation by the chief guest under the leadership of CAU.
He said the programme will cover 20,000 poor rural households in the State and five different virus-resistant fruit saplings will be also distributed to each household.
Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Radha Mohan Singh will also release a high yielding short duration rice variety called CAU-R2 for the farmers.
The rice variety is resistant to pests and yields in about 100 days.
54 exhibition stalls will be opened to showcase all activities and products and success stories of farmers with the help of CAU, National Research Centre, ICAR and other departments.
Altogether 70 farmers from seven different States of the North East will participate in the fair and there will be exchange of ideas and concepts of farming methods and techniques.
There will be innovative farmers' competition where winners will receive cash awards and other exciting prizes, he said.
Interactive session with farmers and scientist will help clear any issue regarding agricultural practices, animal husbandry, fisheries and other related activities.
The first Dr HK Jain-CAU Award 2013-14 for excellence in Agricultural Research in the North East States will be conferred to the winner by the chief Guest, he added.
CAU Chancellor Dr RB Singh, Assam Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Dr KM Bujarbaruah, ICAR (RC) for NEH Region Director Dr SV Ngachan, National Research Centre on Pig Director Dr DK Sarma, National Research Centre on Mithun Director Dr Abhijit Mitra and ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI) Research Director Dr Bidyut C Deka will also attend the 10th CAU Regional Agri-Fair 2016-17 .
