Sky Hospital successfully performs open heart surgery

By successfully performing open heart surgery on four children, Sky Hospital has literally provided a new lease of life to the four children.
Speaking to media persons today, Dr L Shyamkishore, chairperson of Sky Hospital and Research Centre, said that they have been able to give new lives to four minors by performing free open heart surgery on October 8 and 9 .
The patients who had been suffering due to defective hearts (presence of holes) were now recovering after the successful operations.
"These kids can now play with their friends and go to schools normally like other children", he said.
They would be able to grow and live a normal life, go to college and universities, get married and start a family without any complications or side effects.
To mark the beginning of a new life for these kids, the hospital celebrated by cutting a birthday cake, he added.
Dr L Shyamkishore pointed out that anyone in the State who has holes in his/her heart since birth can be easily cured by performing open heart surgery, if such defects are identified and diagnosed at early stage, that is; before they attain 18 years of age.
He further said that Sky Hospital had been providing free echocardiograph and heart screening facilities to infants coming from different districts of the State who were referred for diagnosis and treatment to the hospital under Rastriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) .
The free operations were performed under Manipur State Health Mission and RBSK, and the hospital did not charge any money for the surgeries, he explained.
He further requested families living in far off areas of the State to avail the service rendered by Sky Hospital in case their children are suffering from defective hearts by contacting respective district RBSK teams or Sky Hospital.
The infants who successfully underwent the open heart surgery on October 8 and 9 were identified as Cathy Lairensiem (9 yrs) d/o Darhminglien from Churachandpur, Laishram Thoibi (7 yrs) d/o Sanajaobi from Lilong Arapti, Chingkheinganba (3yrs and 6 months) s/o Braja from Chingmeirong and Chinglawnkim (8yrs) d/o Kapminlian from New Lamka, Churachandpur.
