Imphal, February 24 2023:
Chief Minister N Biren today tabled a report in the State Assembly on the eviction of encroachers from K Songjang village.
Tabling the report, N Biren noted that some organisations have been projecting the Government as communal and partisan with regard to the particular eviction drive.
The Chief Minister asserted that there was no settlement in Songjang till 2021 .
If they were saying that the encroachers were forest dwellers and the settlement was an old one whereas only 17 houses were built in 2022, the Government would never compromise on the matter even if it faces collapse, the Chief Minister asserted.
Some of the encroachers produced Aadhaar cards and they turned out to be residents of Kangvai village as per the details given in the Aadhaar cards.
On spot verification at Kangvai, the Kangvai village chief said that the holder of one Aadhaar card bearing number 963386656752 was not a resident of Kangvai, Biren said.
Saying that the Government has been working to safeguard the interest of indigenous people, he appealed to all concerned to stop portraying the Government in the wrong light through the media.
The 34/35 indigenous communities have been living together in harmony and they must uphold the bond of fraternity but none of them need to support outsiders, Biren said.
He also informed the House that satellite maps are now showing new settlements in the interior forest areas of Sajik Tampak.
