Conclave kicks off

The three day International Bioresource Conclave along with the 22nd congress of the International Society for Ethnopharma-cology and the 10th Congress of Society for Ethnophar-macology (ISE SFEC-2023) began today at City Convention Centre, Imphal.
The programme is being held under the theme "Reimagine Ethnophar-macology: Globalization of Traditional Medicine'', said Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal in a press release.
Organized by IBSD, Imphal in collaboration with Society for Ethnopharmacology, India and International Society for Ethnopharmacology, Switzerland, this congress is being held for the first time at Imphal and also in the North Eastern region to showcase different initiatives for promotion of bioresources and local traditional medicines.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function, Union Minister of State for Education and External Affairs Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh highlighted the unique bioresources and traditional medicines of NER which need to be explored scientifically.
He mentioned that the conference mainly focuses on globalization of traditional medicines.
Prof Pulok K Mukherjee, Chairman, ISESFEC 2023 and Director, IBSD mentioned that there will be over 300 oral and poster presentations by young researchers highlighting different aspects on development of bioresources, ethnopharmacology and drug development during the programme.
He also highlighted the research activities of IBSD for the development of bioresources and traditional healing practices of this region.
Guest of honour Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba appreciated IBSD for organising this congress in Imphal to showcase the unique bioresources of Manipur in particular and the whole North Eastern region at large.
President of ISE Switzerland Prof Gunter Vollmer said that the conference is a gala event of the 22nd congress of the International Society for Ethnopharmacology and the 10th congress of Society for Ethnopharmacology.
He mentioned that the society not only organizes regular meetings and promotes research and publication but also offers multiple ways to exchange information between scientists and anyone else interested in such topics.
President of Society for Ethnopharmacology, Kolkata, on the other hand, highlighted various activities of SFE, India which is affiliated to ISE, Switzerland and working on "Globalizing local knowledge and localizing global technologies" .
During the congress, Prof Sudhir K Sopory was awarded with SFE - Lifetime Achievement Award- 2023" for his contribution in plant biology.
