Harimati Dance and Music Centre kicks off two-day golden jubilee celebration

Harimati Dance and Music Centre observed its golden jubilee celebration today at their complex located at Porompat, Imphal.
Speaking as the chief guest of the two-day golden jubilee celebration, L Kishorjit Director, Art & Culture, Government of Manipur praised Harimati as an invaluable artiste in the field of song, dance and Thang-Ta artforms from a very young age.
The Art & Culture Director also highlighted the role of Harimati Dance and Music Centre in the field of Manipuri culture.
He then spoke about the differences between classical dances of Manipur and other places.
He opined that Manipuri classical dance serves as an ode to the culture of the State and is a dance ritual offered to deities.

The Director also assured to provide assistance from the side of the Government for the development of Harimati Dance and Music Centre.
Addressing the gathering as the Naorem Maishyam Singh, president, Harimati Dance and Music Centre stated that the Centre has produced numerous artistes since its establishment.
Numerous artistes of the Centre have been honoured with many awards, he said.
Delivering the keynote address, Naorem Harimati Devi, secretary, Harimati Dance and Music Centre stated that the Centre was set up in 1972 and in the 50 years since its inception the Centre has showcased a multitude of art forms such as dance drama, ballet, Raas Leela and many art and culture productions.
As a part of the golden jubilee celebration, the artists of the Centre presented Maha Raas Leela.
Tomorrow the artists will showcase a new production entitled "Esheina Thawaini" to mark the conclusion of the two-day golden jubilee celebration.
During the day's function, L Kishorjit released a golden jubilee souvenir along with a book titled "Customs of Manipuri Dance Vol No 1" .
A photo exhibition was also conducted at the celebration.
